The Rutland City business license cycle runs from May 1st until April 30th of the following year.
If you are interested in opening a restaurant, bar, deli, hotel or want to have a circus, show or carnival or a peddler’s license, you must obtain a business from our office. All applicants are subject to a criminal background check, which is done by the Vermont Criminal Information Center for a fee of $30.00.
Any applicant wishing to obtain a liquor, tobacco, outside consumption or an entertainment permit, these licenses must be approved by the city’s Board of Aldermen’s Board of Control Commissioners.
If you already have an existing business and are renewing you license(s), we will check for delinquent water, sewer & RME taxes and with the police department for any disturbances and is subject pending approval of your license renewal(s).
